A track from the Beatles' British album With The Beatles, “All My Loving” subsequently appeared on the group's first album in the U.S., Meet The Beatles!.
It reached Number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
It was also the first song the group played on their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9th, 1964.
Though the song was credited to Lennon-McCartney, both men acknowledged that Paul McCartney wrote it alone. “This was one of his first biggies,” John Lennon said. “It's a damn good piece of work… But I play a pretty mean guitar in back.”
McCartney recalled that “All My Loving” “was the first song I ever wrote where I had the words before the music. I wrote the words on a bus on tour, then we got the tune when I arrived there.”
“All My Loving” was recorded in the same session as “It Won't Be Long,” “'Till There Was You,” “Please Mr. Postman,” and “Roll Over Beethoven.”
The Meet The Beatles! album spent 11 weeks at Number One on the Billboard 200. The album has sold well over five million copies.
