A straightforward rocker using car and motorcycle imagery as sexual metaphors, “Under My Wheels” quickly became an Alice Cooper fan favorite, usually played during the group's encores.
Cooper describes the song as “Total Detroit. This is Garage Band Rock 101.”
Drummer Neal Smith, however, has less than pleasant memories of the creation of the song. “Michael Bruce and Dennis Dunaway kept us up all night long writing ‘Under My Wheels.’ They were camped out behind a turned-over couch in upstate New York, busy composing another Alice Cooper Group classic.”
Rick Derringer, who guested on “Under My Wheels,” is one of a number of musicians brought into the Cooper band fold during the ‘70s to bulk up the group's sound.
The Killer album introduced a number of Cooper motifs, including the song “Dead Babies,” which became a centerpiece of the group's macabre stage show.
Killer was the group's first million-seller, peaking at Number 21 on the Billboard Top 200.
