The annual Northside Back-2-School Bash is set for August 9 at the McNease Convention Center in San Angelo. Organizers say the event helps students and families across the Concho Valley prepare for the new school year by providing free backpacks, school supplies, shoes, and other assistance. Last year, about 2,000 students received support through the program. This year, organizers hope to collect 1,500 backpacks and 1,000 pairs of shoes. They’re also looking for volunteer barbers and hairstylists to provide back-to-school haircuts. Founders Joe and Geneva Rodriguez say the event was created after seeing a growing need among local families.
