State animal health officials have established a new New World screwworm infested zone in parts of Sutton and Schleicher counties after the parasite was detected in a dog. The case marks the third confirmed instance of a dog being infected since the flesh-eating parasite reappeared in the United States this year. Federal officials say there have now been 37 confirmed detections nationwide, all involving domestic animals. The newly designated zone is intended to help contain and monitor the spread.
