San Angelo recorded one of the lowest metropolitan unemployment rates in Texas during August.
The Texas Workforce Commission reports the local unemployment rate was about 3.6 percent, second only to Midland among the state’s metro areas. About 60,000 people were employed across the San Angelo metropolitan area during the month.
Statewide, Texas added 5,600 jobs in August and more than 159,000 over the past year. Leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, and manufacturing were among the industries adding jobs.
Texas’ statewide unemployment rate was 4.4 percent.
