San Marcos investigators are renewing their appeal for information about the 2018 apartment fire that killed five people, including 19-year-old San Angelo resident Haley Michele Frizzell. The arson at the Iconic Village Apartments also critically injured San Angelo resident Zachary Sutterfield, who suffered severe burns and a traumatic brain injury. Authorities have released surveillance footage showing vehicles near the complex before and after the fire and want to speak with the occupants, although they are not considered suspects. Investigators say the fire was intentionally started on a discarded mattress in a first-floor breezeway and that they have identified a person of interest. A previous suspect was arrested in 2023, but a grand jury declined to indict him and the charge was dismissed. A $50,000 reward remains available for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
