Beacon Data Centers has responded to concerns about its proposed Westline Energy and Infrastructure Campus in Tom Green County, saying the project would generate its own power and use limited water resources. Company officials say the data center would rely primarily on natural gas-powered generators rather than the state electrical grid and would use an existing surface water right already tied to the property. Beacon estimates the project could create more than 1,200 construction jobs, at least 300 permanent positions, and generate millions of dollars in local tax revenue. The company also pledged to develop local hiring programs, infrastructure agreements, and a site restoration plan. The response comes after Governor Greg Abbott ordered state regulators to pause permit reviews for major data center projects while impacts on water supplies and the power grid are studied. The proposal remains in the planning and permitting stages.
